The Bengal Story

Many hundreds of years ago, a cat came out of the
wilderness to search for food, and some believe, for
human companionship.  Had this been an isolated
incident, this may have been the end of the story,
but it wasn't ....

It was, in fact, a story that took
place in different lands, and with different species
of cats.  One species came to be known as
The Jungle Cat, another the European Forest Cat,
and still another, The African Wild Cat.
One of these cats was known to be very shy,
one very ferocious, and one very mellow.
As generations passed, and the cats interbred,
the humans selected their favorites for their
hunting ability, their companionship, and their
beauty.....

In the centuries that followed, the Domestic Cat
that derived from the three came to be known
as simply, "The Cat", a species onto itself.
From it's early days, it came to appear in numbers
of colors and patterns and coat lengths until
it seemed all possible variations had been achieved.

But then,  in the late twentyith century,
a fourth wild species was introduced....

The Asian Leopard Cat brought to the domestic
gene pool something new; a vivid "leopard" colour
and pattern, smaller ears, a glove soft "pelt", and
a distimctive head and body type that could only be
described as "wild ".  The Leopard Cat himself was
shy and not not at all interested in showing off his
exotic beauty, but when selectively bred to
just the right Domestic Cats, amazingly wonderful
and gregarious creatures
would  come to result ....

Fittingly, one of the Domestic Cats selected to
join forces with these Asian Leopard Cats
was a street living cat of Domestic Asian heritage
who possessed a never before seen gene of his own.
He had hollow tips at the end of each shaft of
his fur that caused his coat to gleem like glitter
in the sun light!  He thus became known as the
first "glittered" cat, and many of his decendants
today possess this striking quality ....

Today the offspring and issue of the the three wild
cats, the fourth wild cat, and the first glittered cat
are a Domestic Cat breed onto themselves.
They are called Bengal Cats.
We are very much honored to be engaged
in the promotion and preservation of this
beautiful new breed of cat.
